Eventually renamed Eldorado Canyon, the destination has a rich history. 1775 Spanish fortune-seekers discovered gold, silver, and copper in the hills. Best known for the notorious Techatticup Mine, the deadliest in Nevada history, violent clashes over ownership, management, and labor disputes often ended with murder. So many that they became somewhat familiar—a part of everyday life in Nelson!

Despite the unsavory reputation of the now abandoned ghost town, the mines in Nelson produced untold millions for some lucky prospectors. Whether or not they lived to spend it is anyone’s guess.
